Branding yourself is more than just a pretty color palette and an award-winning logo design. We get so caught up in what it means to “create a brand” that we spend countless hours designing and marketing things that will never give us a return on our investment.
It is possible to brand yourself on social media, without focusing a majority of your time on aesthetics. If you’re wondering how to brand yourself or why it’s important to focus on branding yourself rather than your business or products, click here to get access to my FREE Instagram Branding workshop.
Now, let’s create an experience for your potential customers by covering three actionable steps you can take to brand yourself today!
Figure out who you are on social media.
You can’t expect a potential customer to find your profile, scroll through, click to follow, click to grab your freebie, and click to make a purchase from you if you don’t have a clear standard set for who you are on social media.
You figure this out by asking yourself questions like, “what do I like?”
Do you like bright colors and natural photos? Then you will also attract people who like bright colors and natural photos. People who will already have a commonality with you, such as similar taste, will already begin the process of “Like. Know. Trust.”, which is crucial to building a brand that converts.
You can also ask yourself what you are about and what you want to be known for. These questions will attract potential customers who have the same beliefs and hopes and dreams for their life and the world. Without a strong grasp of who you are, your content will be all over the place, and people will back out of your profile super confused. Do not skip this step!
Do things that make you stand out.
Start with your bio. Could it
Next, edit your photos to stand out. Never fill a feed with just quotes and product images. You are branding YOU, therefore, you have to be the face of your brand.
Lastly, to set yourself apart, you have to post consistently. Pick a schedule and stick to it. People need to know when to expect to hear from you. The most important thing to remember when branding yourself on social media is that standing out in a world of robots is simple, especially when you figure out that all you have to do is be human.
And that statement connects us to the last point.
Make an effort to genuinely connect!
There’s a huge difference in scrolling on social media and connecting on social media. To get over the hump of figuring out who to connect with and really start building relationships, start by choosing 10-15 accounts you want to connect with that month and create a list with the links to their accounts to make it easy to access. Then, each day, spend 15-20 minutes visiting each profile, responding to stories, liking photos, and leaving GENUINE comments on their posts.
This system is beneficial in two ways.
One: It shows Instagram that you’re a connector, not spam. You’re interacting with the people you follow, not just random photos linked to certain hashtags.
Two: You’re making yourself known to those accounts and their followers. They will remember you, visit you, follow you, and eventually convert to a customer.
The key to this strategy is to choose accounts who have a similar audience as you, with perhaps a bit higher follower count but doesn’t necessarily provide the same services that you provide for your customers. This way, you’re not competing in your field, but there’s also the potential to share services and even collaborate down the road.
Before you go, don’t forget that I have a FREE Instagram Branding workshop that will walk you through each step to build a brand that converts on Instagram. If you want to know how to brand yourself, or why it’s more important to brand yourself instead of your business or products.
